Confirmation 2017

Well done to the 5th and 6th class on doing Scoil San Eoin and their families proud on their Confirmation day. All pupils did a fantastic job in preparation for the day and this showed through their singing, Offertory Procession, Prayers of the Faithful and through the active and confident part they playeed in the whole ceremony. A huge thank you to the PA, especially Caroline Mooney and Nicole Keogh who helped in decorating the church and to all who contributed baked goods and treats. I hope all the pupils had lots of fun and have fond memories of their special day. Thank you to Claire Jenkinson for the lovely photos.

CONGRATULATIONS SCOIL SAN EOIN

Well done to the children of Scoil San Eoin for  successfully obtaining the second Green flag on Energy. A special thanks goes out to the Green School Committee Members especially the class reps who have done an amazing job and it hasn't gone unnoticed for their dedication and time given after school!! We will commence the first steps in September to embark on our third Green Flag.

An Enjoyable Retreat!

The 5th and 6th class retreat day to Glendalough was a great success. The pupils enjoyed a very relaxed, enjoyable and informative tour around the beautiful scenery. They meditated and contemplated the ideas of Confirmation through the examples of stories of St Kevin. They finished the day by renewing their Confirmation commitment.  A huge thank you to Fr. Pat of Tearmann Spirituality Centre and Mrs. Behan for making the day so enjoyable.

Confirmation Retreat

The Confirmation class will be going on retreat to Glendalough on Friday 28th. The pupils will be leaving the school at 9.20 sharp and will be returning before 3pm. All pupils need to wear suitable clothing and footwear ( raincoat, runners, etc)  as there will be a lot of outdoor activities and walking around Glendalough. Pupils will need to bring a good packed lunch and extra drinks. Phones and Ipods are permitted once the pupil has written permission from parent/guardian and as usual it is the pupils responsibility on the day.  We are looking forward to a nice day of quiet and contemplation in preparation for the big day!

New Appointment!

Some very positive news was received from the Department in the form of confirmation that Scoil San Eoin will have another teacher beginning in September 2017!!. This new appointment has come about due to the increasing numbers in the school. A huge thank you to all who worked very hard to bring this about,  through positive promotion of the school, petitions, and all matter of other ways. Our quest to gain another teacher has been a long process but we persevered, knowing that this will be a huge benefit to the staff and pupils, with much smaller class sizes and another teacher on board who will bring their interests, skills and knowledge to the school. It is also another way to ensure that this small school, which is so important to the community, will continue to develop and flourish.

Annual Open Day and Junior Entrepreneur Showcase Day!!

Our annual Open Day is on this Saturday April 1st from 12-2pm. All are welcome!

As usual the pupils will be showing samples of the great work that they have done and are in the process of doing at the moment. It is also an opportunity for new Junior Infant parents and prospective parents and pupils to come and familiarise themselves with the school.

This year the Open Day also doubles as the Junior Entrepreneur Showcase Day for the senior class. They will be displaying the fruits of all their hard work and of course the Canny Cans and Postcards will go on sale!

Come and pick up a local postcard or recycled organiser and support the senior pupils, our future entrepreneurs!!

Coding and IT Classes

Coding and IT classes finished today with Ciaran having spent 6 weeks teaching the pupils some great new skills.  The classes have been a fantastic success, giving the pupils a great grounding in general IT skills, coding and building games.  We would like to say a very big thank you to the Parents Association who funded the classes through fundraising, avoiding any further costs on parents.

Spring Time has arrived in SSE.....

Scoil San Eoin children have been very busy planting for this season with flowering plants, sowing onions, garlic and much much more in our garden beds. We look forward to seeing the growth and development. We will observe,  document, record and enjoy the beautiful growth in our school garden.

Radio Superstars!!

Four pupils from the Senior Class were guests on Declan Meehan's show on East Coast FM today. They were speaking about the Junior Entrepreneur Programme and the business idea that they have come up with.  All pupils did a great job and represented the school very well. What a great experience for them and we are all very proud that our school was chosen from all the schools in Wicklow to speak about JEP this year.   Below is the audio from the show.  Enjoy!

Next Steps in Junior Entrepreneur

The Senior Pupils have been continuing with their JEP projects. Today the class had a visit from our JEP coordinator Aoife Boyle. She was very impressed with the pupils work and how much they had learned and discovered about being an entrepreneur. She loved their choice of project and thought it was very different and should be a profitable business venture. She was so impressed she asked 4 of the class to go on East Coast Radio on Tuesday 14th to speak about JEP and the class project. Tune in and listen!!! WELL DONE ALL!!!!!!

The pupils have now completed Step 4 and 5 of the programme. They looked at their talents and skills and after a variety of activities and class discussions, have now been placed on a team with a role and responsibility within the project.

As part of Step 4 the class had to conduct market research. A group took an enjoyable stroll in the sunshine down through the village to see who we could ask to take part. Each pupil was also asked to get 3 surveys completed by family and friends. This information will now have to be correlated and put onto a graph. This will show the class what direction they should go with their product. Thank you to all who took the time to take part in the surveys.

Shared Reading

As part of World Book Day we had some Shared Reading time.  Pupils from the Senior room chose a book and read it to the  pupils in the Junior room.  As you will see from the photos, everybody involved really enjoyed the experience.  Shared Reading develops confidence and a love for reading in both the older and younger child. It is also a good way to develop social skills between pupils of all ages. This will be continued on a monthly basis from now on in the school.
